History

In 1985 the Midland Group was the first Dexter Group to form, now we have about 50 member herds from Staffordshire, Shropshire, Leicestershire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire, West Midlands, Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire. Some own two or three Dexters, right through to those with large commercial herds.

Activities

At least four times a year, usually on a Sunday we get together to visit Dexter Herds, listen to talks on related subjects and have “hands on” days, learning  how, for example, to groom for a show, foot trimming or DIY husbandry. Whatever the activity, we all have enormous fun and enjoy a lunch provided by members.

Every year we have a competition for our members, one year a calf show the next a herd competition. The herd competition is split into two sections, the small herd for six or less breeding cows and the large herd for bigger herds. Cups are awarded for the winners. The Staythrop Trophy is awarded to the best home bred animal under 12 months.
